Default Help with Restoration Hardware Restore Sofa

I just bought this RH sofa secondhand. Buyer listed it as distressed. Appears to be a Maddox. No tag to identify leather or original color. My wife hates the rough texture and I’m wondering if anyone can tell me what leather this is? And also, is there anything I can do to bring back the leather?

It appears someone may have neglected this. Video is after two coats of conditioner I applied today with a horse brush.Name: IMG_5841.jpg

Leather identification comes first, and we need to see some hidden area, under the cushion, or unzip to see some seam that is original to go from there.
