Default Leather Tooled Desk Top Repair

I have a desk with a leather tooled writing inset on the desk top. There is some kind of finish (leather lacquer?) over the leather inset which I'm assuming was applied to allow for easier writing on the leather inset. Over the years, there has been some chipping of the clear finish due to normal use. Is there a way to repair these chips easily with some kind of filler or clear coat? The leather inset has not been damaged at all, just the clear top coat.

    Thank you!!

Here is a topcoat refinishing kit in gloss luster, you may want to explore it further.
