Rip in leather (think it's quite bad)

Hoping someone can help.. just picked up a new car (well new to me but a few years old) and it's got this rip in the armrest. Just wondering what the best way to repair it would be. I was thinking a
black coloured flexible filler, then a dye over the top... But not sure if I should sand it flat first or something totally different is the answer

1 - Identify if this is leather or vinyl.

2 - If the back or reverse is suede, then it is leather.

3 - If the back or reverse is vinyl, then you see fabric.

Do your findings first before we go into the details of leather repairs.

The main repair for vinyl is the vinyl compound and a micro mesh that need to be heat activated with a heating iron to melt into the existing damages.

You may need to find a vinyl repair kit, leatherdoctor.com only does with leather and suede.
