    Default Givenchy Lamb Skin Jacket - Shrunk!


    I recently registered the forum (id: oora80) but still not able to write a post. I am in urgent with my favorite leather jacket which has shrunken by chemical leakage, it was calcium chloride in liquid. Is it able to fix in any way? Please help me out with some advices. I will attach some picture of it. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you

    Calcium chloride has a known pH value of 8 – 9 in liquid is the cause of the shrinkage of the leather. Protein leather fiber pH value is approximately 4. pH value is compute in the power of 10 thus at pH 9 it is almost 100’000 times difference in ionic power. This shifting of the pH value weakens the ionic positive (+ve) attraction of the protein fiber and the leather constituents like the tanning agents and the fatliquor leach away. The fiber collapsed, shrunk and becomes stick together.

    To reverse the hydrogen bond the calcium choride has to be neutralized and rinse off with Acidifier-2.0 (pH 2.0) to a squeaky feel from the present tacky or slimy feel when wet.

    The next phase is to hydrate with Hydrator-3.3 to relax and separate the stick together fiber with gentle stretching back to the original dimension.

    Fatliquor-5.0 is then replenished sufficiently to maintain suppleness with softness and strength when dry.

    Refinishing is either with opaque Micro-54 or with Nappa-84 system. If the leather finishes is absorbent then Nappa-84 system applies, otherwise it is with Micro-54 system. Aniline transparent system is with Aniline-76 system. All these system are available in standard black.

    This may be a job too complicated for first timer DIY’er.

    Leather Doctor®, aniline leather water-stain remover kit is designed to remove water stains as the results of destabilizing the leather pH equilibrium. The side effect of alkaline overexposure manifests as marks and rings behaving like litmus paper. The darkening rings are leather constituents that breaks bond with the protein fiber and migrate forming the outer ring. Acidifier-2.0 neutralizes the alkaline overexposure and protonating or recharging the protein fiber ionic positive to re-attracts the ionic negative leather constituents. The leather is saturated and dwell up to 72 hours for extreme cases to facilitate redistribution and wicking up foreign contamination. A paper towel covering without airspace helps trapped foreign particulates instead of remaining on the leather surface when dry. Watermarks are cleaned with Cleaner-3.8 to remove surface residue prior to Acidifier-2.0. Hydrator-3.3 helps to redistributes the inter-fibrillary water movement; helps reduce surface tension for a more even appearance prior to fat and oil replenishing. Fatliquor-5.0 rejuvenates and imparts leather with softness and suppleness when dry. Protector-B+ enhances a non-stick rub-resistant protection with a buttery-feel that shield against sticky soiling. Note that the mentioned product suffix number denotes its pH value in this holistic leather-safe aniline leathers pH stabilizing system to eliminate water stains. Leather protein fiber is an amphoteric material while the other leather constituents like the tanning agents, dyestuffs and fatliquor are not. The iso-electric point (pI) of leather averages pH 4, water averages pH 7. Between pH 7 and pH 4 there is an ionic difference of 1000 (one thousand) times. Foreign pH influences below the pI charges the protein fiber ionic positive while above the pI causes the protein fiber to shift ionic negative. The ionic leather constituents and the protein fibers behave like magnets, unlike poles attracts.

    Leather Doctor®, aniline leather dye refinishing kit is designed for dyestuff and topcoat refinishing from the simple sunlight fading to the severely sweat damages from body oil and grease. Most severely penetrated, prolonged and neglected stains show a darkening effect with a sticky feel have its topcoat and dyestuff probably deteriorated by the sweat. When the stain feels sticky, it is a sign of leather denaturing and reverting to rawhide from breaking of bonds with the tanning agent. When sign of color is transfer to a white towel, it indicates that the dyestuff has also break bonds with the protein fiber. When leather is stiff or shows signs of whitish residue migrating, it shows that the fatliquor is breaking bonds as well with the protein fiber. The main component of the leather protein fiber is amphoteric while the other constituents are not; shifting of the pH mainly caused from sweat to alkalinity affects the pH imbalance. To revert from denaturing into rawhide prior to topcoat refinishing, contaminated alkaline soiling is removed with Degreaser-2.2, a waterbased (pH 2.2) multifunctional degreaser that emulsifies greasy contamination besides controlling dye bleeding and charging the protein fiber ionic positive for strengthening the attraction between the ionic negative tanning agent, dyestuff and fatliquor. Deflocculated and suspended soiling is towel extracted, thereafter rinse and pH balanced with Acidifier-2.0 to prevent the leather from reverting to rawhide. When leather feels sticky or slimy it is a sign of leather denaturing, a squeaky feel when wet is a sign of a healthy leather. Hydrator-3.3 relaxes stiff leathers and removes surface tension free from surface blotchiness prior to fat and oil replenishing. Fat and oil is replenished with Fatliquor-5.0 to rejuvenate the leather for the desired suppleness when dry. Custom redyeing commences prior to topcoat refinishing. Protector-B+ imparts a non-stick rub-resistant protection with a buttery-feel that shield against sticky soiling and reduce friction noises.
