Roger,
I have a client that's moving out of our area soon, that needs their Ecrones sofa and love seat restored. It has cat scratch and is about 12 years old.

I Fed Ex'd the sample to you. I will need 500 ml color, i believe it to be semi aniline matt finish.

Please list procedures to clean, hydrate, fatliquore. And then to glue down cat scratch flaps and fill the deeper scratches. Then restore color and topcoat.
Can this be performed in home and in a 6-7 hour period. Medium soiling and the leather still feels supple, with no apparent fading or damage other than the cat scratches. Inclosed are the pictures, however the cat scratch doesn't shoe up well.

The last picture is of the OS R arm, it shows the catscratch the best, but it is all over the seat cushions and back of the sofa.

You should receive the leather swatch today or tomorrow. this client is moving in 2 weeks, so I need the dye ASAP so we can proceed. Please send the dye out express delivery.

Thanks, Chet

The recommended process is as follows:

Phase 1 – Preparatory Cleaning:
Use Prep-7.7 follows by Cleaner-3.8 then Rinse-3.0.
Tools you need is a 3” Poly-Brush to apply the Prep-7.7; leather Brush-1 or standard horsehair brush for agitation; terry towel for the suspended soiling extraction.
Fine wet sanding is incorporated into this phase to remove deteriorated finishes for a better foundation for the new finishes to anchor into.

Phase 2 – Leather Rejuvenation:
Use Hydrator-3.3 follows with Fatliquor-5.0 while the leather STRUCTURE is still damp.
If the leather FINISH is non-absorbent; then after 12 years of body contact will make these areas becomes absorbent.
A clear sign to observe is the darkening areas while cleaning in Phase 1.
All the cat scratch will also darken up while damp.
These are the areas that effective hydrating and fatliquoring will reduce or eliminate the over-stretch ripples especially the cushions.
Effective leather rejuvenating will also bring up the dyes from the leather structure to its surface that makes the refinishing easier (with less color contrast).

Phase 3 – Leather Repair to Cat-Scratch:
There are combinations of damages to cat-scratch; and can be group in 4 categories:
1] Sink-in finishes that need to ease out with a dental tool.
2] Stick-out triangle flaps.
3] Straight scratch that opens the finishes with jagged edges.
4] Surface smooth scuffing.
Categories 1], 2] and 3] requires leather Bond-3D; to bond the finish damages in place.
Leather Stucco-90 helps to fill up deeper damages in combination with Bond-3D and color.
Bond-7A is to work the Bond-3D smooth for shallow repairs without the need of the Stucco-90.
Category 4 requires a fine sanding; and it is ready for color refinishing.

Phase 4 – Leather Refinishing:
1] Adhesion Coating – use Adhesor-73
2] Color Flow Control – use Thickener-48
3] Micro-Pigment Color Coating – use Pigment Micro-54
4] Micro-Pigment Topcoating – use Topcoat Micro-72M (matte)
5] Non-Stick, Rub-Resistance Protector – use Leather Scent-B (buttery-feel).

Whether it can be performed in 6-7 hours period; why not; still depends on various factors.

The effective dwelling and the drying time alone for the leather rejuvenating alone may take that long!

There is still a “what if…” and it all eats up the time very quickly!

Do you have detaled instruction and pictures of how to do repairs?

Tips on Repair to Cat Scratch!

I would prefer to do the repair after fatliquoring.
The only caution is not to remove those flaps during the preparatory cleaning phase.
The advantage is that the flaps are much relaxed and easier to work with.
Moreover most of the flaps is already laid down which reduce time to work on those still sticking out.
The contrasting color of the leather structure will also be reduced as the dyestuff wicks up during the rejuvenating process.
To work while the leather is still damp with this water-based leather bond makes the stretching of these flaps much easier to reduce the gaps.
Leather Bond-3D is preferred for repair over Stucco-90 as the color is natural.
While colors can be added to both products; Stucco-90 will need a thicker layer of color for covering up and that makes the repair more unnatural.

There is also the style difference; Micro-Repair versus Macro-Repair.

Micro-Repair is just concentrating on the damage itself with relying on the work of Bond-3D; optional last few applications with color incorporated; and finally with the help of Bond-7A levels out the repairs.
These repairs style leaves a permanent visible natural scar; while leaving the surrounding grains untouched.

Macro-Repair relies on sanding and the Stucco-90 (with final color incorporated into the last few application); that fills and flatten the surrounding areas flat of grains. The total area of repair is enlarged and feathered out.

Customer need to understand the two difference styles of repair in the prequalification option and job done accordingly to their choice.

Note:
You may want to consider an in-house hands-on training, besides leather repair.
