Last winter March 2023 we got a urine water stain on one cushion my husband tried to clean it with backing soda and water and it puckered and shrunk. I tried to fix it with water and mild soap and stretched it back into place. It still has large black 2 circles in one stain on it. What can I do to repair it?

>>> What can I do to repair it?

The best approach is done in progressive steps.

Step-1 pH balancing and Decontamination
The urine, baking soda, and mild soap need to be pH balanced, and decontaminated.

Step-2 Hydration, Reconditioning, and Restoring Shrinkage.

Step-3 Restoring the Wax Pull-up, Top Coat Gloss Refinishing, and Optional Dye Refinishing.

I will need more information from you if you want to proceed further.

And if you like personal coaching via WhatsApp let me know too!

Take a look at these two kits and we can discuss further.

Your questions are welcome!

The second photo is what it looks like no it's no longer shrunk. It no longer has any smell. I just need to remove dark water stains. I talked with a shoe repair person and they definitely said it was a water stain

It did not penetrate the leather

>>> I just need to remove dark water stains.

I have observed many urine-stain leather and most show a combination of "dark" and "white" residual stains. I believe the "dark" stains are fugitive tanning agents that break the hydrogen with the protein fiber and the "white" residual stains are from the fatliquor (fat and oil).

Leather is an amphoteric protein material, and with alkaline solution influences from both the urine and baking soda the protein fiber loses its ionic positive (+ve) attraction. Thus both the tanning agent and the fatliquor leach out.

Questions:

1- Do you know how long the urine stain was there before it was discovered?

2- Do you feel any tackiness when you run your wet finger through the dark area?

3- What is the 'It' that did not penetrate the leather?

4- >>> I talked with a shoe repair person and they definitely said it was a water stain - Did you by mistake use 'dark' water to clean your leather then?

Please show us a picture of the mild soap you use . . . do you know its pH value?

I suggest you invite the shoe repair person to join our discussion too.
