Dear All, I am so happy to eventually find an online forum with leather experts! I would love to know more on how to take good care of my leather collections. Attached please find a shearling jacket of mine, which is around 5-6 years old from manufacture. I am not exactly sure what type of shearling it is, it would be appreciated if you can enlighten me on this.
The jacket is pretty stiff now and I wonder if certain refurbishment procedures can ease the break in and soften a bit the leather.
Also, I am curious to know if I could darken and intensify a bit the current color to a deeper burgundy tone with a glossy finish.
Thank you very much for all your comments, much appreciated :)

All shearlings have a wool face on the inside, the outer face could be suede or smooth such as breathable nappalan, or non-breathable pigmented.

All refinishing will need to match the original finishes.

The suppleness of the leather comes from the fatliquor (fat and oil) fatliquored during the leather processing in the tannery. The content of this fat and oil is about 14%. As fatliquor is a VOC (volatile organic compound) it evaporates thus the leather structure stiff up. To soften it with strength is to replenish it with fatliquor again thus the leather gains strength with softness. Shrinkage can be stretched back to size with Hydrator-3.3 and continue with Fatliquor-5.0 to increase suppleness and strength.
