Full aniline sofa urinated on

Our full aniline sofa has been urinated on by our dog. I’m worried I made it worse by putting baking soda on it :( what do I do??

Leather has a pH value of 3 to 5

Baking soda has a pH value of 8.8 depending on concentration.

The high alkaline value has denatured the leather structure by breaking its hydrogen bond (just like water is no more drinkable when the temperature goes below zero and turns it to ice, it is also not drinkable when it rises above 100C.

In this case, you see the dyestuff breaks the hydrogen and migrates to the edges as rings.

The fatliquor (fat and oil) also breaks its hydrogen bond, and when dry will stiff up the leather into raw-hide.


Part of the solution is to revert the pH value back to the original (the product suffix number in the Kit-L5.uk2 represents the product pH value).

The leather structure has to be soaking wet with these low pH value product systems to redistribute the leather constituents especially the tanning agent, dyestuff and fatliquor back to the denatured areas. Any browning discoloration may be improved with redox (reduction-oxidation) reagent such as Vachetta-2.8 if this stain is plants and vegetables related issues.


Note:

Never use baking soda on leather because of its pH value of 8.8.

Only use leathersafe products that has a pH value between 3 and 5, otherwise they need to be neutralized or pH balanced back to its original pH value of 3 to 5.

How do I use that kit? I can’t soak the entire cushion bevause they don’t come
Off. Will it restore it back to normal do you think?

Products are all spayed and let it soak into the thickness of the leather.
