Hi,

Could you recommend the best product to use on this steering wheel please?

Can this be fixed with a conditioner, or does it need dying to restore?

Thanks

>>> Could you recommend the best product to use on this steering wheel please?

Looks like this steering wheel have been refinished with an unusual thick product; it would also affects the hand/touch/feel of the leather feeling more plastiky then a cushion softness of leather. A leather that breathes also reduces sweatiness to the touch. The best product is not thick and brittle shown in this damage but flexible and fine coating with good coverage over the leather grain. A fine coating has less chances of finishes coating cracking or chipping off. The strength of dry leather grains is maintain by an average 14% of fatliquor (fat and oil) content and need to replenished periodically, provided that the fine coating develops micro crazing to allow ingress of Hydrator-3.3 prior to Fatliquor-5.0. This fatliquoring system separate the leather structure from sticking together thus maintain its cushion effect. I recommend that the existing coating be stripped off entirely and refinish. Let me know if you wish to do so.

>>> Can this be fixed with a conditioner,

Leather structure conditioning would only apply when the existing thick coating is stripped off to access to the thickness of the leather structure.

>>> or does it need dying to restore?

This thick, heavy and brittle coating needs repair and further repairs would further build up the thickness away from the feel of leather. A complete removal of existing finishes recommended.
