These boots were in storage and got what is probably dish soap spilled on them, but it might be shampoo. They've probably been like this for 6 months to a year.

I assume that as soon as I wash the soap off there will be a big ugly stain. What's the best way to go about "saving" them?

Thank you for your time.

You will need a Suede Care Kit:

plus
Acidifier-2.0
http://www.leatherdoctor.com/acidifier-2-0/
or Basifier-8.8
http://www.leatherdoctor.com/basifier-8-8/

You may want to confirm the pH value of the spill by testing out its pH value with a simple litmus paper test to determine if there is a need for the Acidifier-2.0. This acidifier has a pH value of 2.0 that is used to neutralize any alkalinity that denatures the leather. If the test turns out to be acidic, then to neutralize it would need Basifier-8.8 instead. Balancing the affected leather to the leather pH neutral of 3 to 5.

Recommend procedure:

Step-1 is a dry soiling removal of the spill stain with a combination of SuedeBrush-3 and SuedeEraser-3.
Step-2 lightly wet out the residue and test with litmus paper or a pH meter.
Step-3 neutralizes it to pH value reading to between 3 and 5 (the leather pH neutral range).
Step-4 cleans with CleanSuede-4.5 with a combination of SuedeBrush-3 and SuedeEraser-3.
Step-5 rinse with RinseSuede-2.3 with a combination of SuedeBrush-3 and SuedeEraser-3.
Step-6 hydrate with Hydrator-3.3
Step-7 fatliquor with Ftliquor-5.0
Step-8 protect with Protector-S
