Hi all! I've recently come into possession of a beautiful aquascutum shearling bomber. It is a dark brown (which I mistook for black online) with a nice cream constrast shearling lining. I want to dye the jacket black without compromising the colour of the jacket's lining. Can this be done? Two people I emailed suggested I wouldn't manage t without the lining absorbing the dye from the outside.

Any help appreciated!

Mike

“Stain” dyeing that penetrates the leather structure may be a problem through to the other wool face.
“Coating” dyeing that coat the leather surface is the safer route to go.
Another consideration is all dyestuffs are transparent so the dark brown may still show through.
Pigment coloring is opaque, so it blocks the base color.
There are two version of opaque pigment, Micro-54 forms a continuous film and Napa-84 forms a discontinuous film that allows breathing better.
On the same token Suede-28 will also blocks the base color better on nappy leathers.

Let me know what you think?
