Hello, new member here. I do not know what kind of leather my lampshade is made of so I am posting here vs a specific leather topic.

We bought the pictured shade some years ago from a 2nd hand shop. Have no idea of the age etc except that the shade was already in it's current condition which is very dry and tight with some discoloration.

Never paid much attention to it to be honest but I fear that it may split or crack without some TLC.

So, here are my questions.

What kind of leather is it?
What treatment does it need?
What products should I use?

Thanks for any guidance you can give.

>>> What kind of leather is it?

This is rawhide and not process into leather yet.

>>> What treatment does it need?

KillMold-3.6 will prevent mold or fungus infestation and effective on an 8 monthly cycle. Just like antibiotic treatment.

>>> What products should I use?

For general “dry” cleaning use LeatherEraser-4

For general “wet” cleaning use Clean-3.8 > Rinse-3.0

For non-stick, rub-resistant protection with a classic leather-scent use Protector-B+

Should i do something to moisturize the rawhide or worry about it splitting? It is really dry and hard? Thanks Roger-

This is the same material you see on Asian Drums, they would not split unlike leather.

You may want to test them out with this Kit-A3 system for aniline leathers and let me know if the Hydrator-3.3 > Fatliquor-5.0 system works?
