Roger, This chair an ottoman are very faded. There is a little hair oil on the top corner and center back cushion, other wise it is just faded.

We plan on removing oil contamination, then Clean, Rinse, Hydrate thoroughly and Fatliquor to bring back as much color as possible. We are ordering Aniline-76 Dye to match but I was going to try and dye first with Aniline-21 that I have left over that matches and try to even it out prior to finishing with aniline-76 and a Top Coat. I believe Aniline-76 is correct but advise if you think I should use something else.

The Client would like it dyed back to the color of the inside arm which is slightly darker than the swatch I am sending you.

>>> but I was going to try and dye first with Aniline-21 that I have left over that matches and try to even it out prior to finishing with aniline-76 and a Top Coat.

Tips:

When using Aniline-21 and since it is a ‘staining’ dyestuff it needs to contact the leather crust, however any surface contamination may result in blotchy effect and need to inspect with Surfactant-3.6 prior to dye application to improve dyeing uniformity.

Tips:

Work up the color by 3 stages to maximize the result closed to the original.

1 – Leather rejuvenating with Hydrator-3.3 up to 72hrs then follows with Fatrliquor-5.0 will contributes to the overall color density. The dyes intensity from the reverse suede side determines how intense the surface could be.

2 – Aniline-21 the staining dyestuff depends on the even absorption of the dyestuff any non-penetrating finishing from the crust have to be removed with Stripper-2.3.

3 – Aniline-76 coats over any surface imperfection with a ‘transparent’ effect and darker with each layer – ‘what you see is not what you get’.

Degreaser-2.2 > Acifidier-2.0 > Hydrator-3.3 system recommended.

Dyed the leather with Aniline-21 and it looks dramatically better. Now I want to finish with Aniline-76, do we need to use adhesor? And can I just brush it on with rubbing it in?

I want to try and make the arms look better, they are showing cracks.

And the hair oil area looks dull, like the finish is missing.

>>> Dyed the leather with Aniline-21 and it looks dramatically better. Now I want to finish with Aniline-76, do we need to use Adhesor-73?

Yes, you need Adhesor-73 for all coating finishes as adhesion promoter and sealing uneven absorption for an even appearance.

>>> And can I just brush it on with rubbing it in?

Yes, brush and rub Adhesor-74 in, any surface access is removed.

Have you done any "Dry Prep" yet?

>>> I want to try and make the arms look better, they are showing cracks.

These cracks will be improved with Adhesor-73

Always "Dry Prep" prior to Adhesor-73.

Dry prep includes using Eraser-4 and 2000grit sanding.

Adhesor-73 rub-in and sand in-between coating should even out appearance eliminate the dull patch.

Please show some pictures of your progress.

Can we use Steel Wool instead of sand paper? This leather is quilted and we don't confident in getting in al the creases and areas with sand paper.

Try using Eraser-5 with better control

Can I ask why you don't recommend Steel Wool?

The steel edges cuts into the grain.

You may try a hidden corner and compare the effect.

Finished the dyeing, how should we finish it? Wax Effect or aniline 76 top coat? 6660

>>> Finished the dyeing, how should we finish it? Wax Effect or aniline 76 topcoat?

EffectWax-8.6 is only used as a secondary leather structure conditioner to gives the pull-up effect.
Use AnilineTop-21W to impart a “waxy-matte” finish or the Gloss AnilineTop-76 for added strength.
