Here are more aerial pictures - beside a quarter, so you can gain an idea of size. There are more of these marks on the cushions and arms of the sofa.

>>> I would really appreciate your advice. I love these sofas - they are also so expensive - and I have looked after them so well for four years until now.

To keep this leather at a high level of appearance and as long as you like would have to start with a ‘Restorative Care’ described as a holistic approach below. Thereafter we can discuss about the regime of routine and periodic care and will prolong the need for a restorative care again for some time to come. Here is a little information of your leather type and characteristic.

Wax pull-up leathers derive its color from dyestuff and effect wax that gives the leather a lively distressed look. When this leather is pulled, stretched or scratched, the waxes dissipate characteristically and become lighter in those areas. Sunlight and stretching through high wear areas are two main indications that the infused wax needs replenishing. As this, effect wax behaves just like the primary fatliquor they do diminish through ageing and will need periodic replenishing. Besides contributing to the color intensity, it improves in water shedding effect. Effect wax when applied to the leather penetrates while some transforms into fine cloudy crystal and remains on the surface. The dried surface white powdery deposits are then heat activated and when they melt, they coat the surface with a glossy sheen. In a restorative care cycle an urethane gloss topcoats is applied to restore its original appearance.

>>> the sofas now have numerous 'heat' marks from where hot coffee cups have been placed on the sofa arms and cushions - and foot stool.

Heat cause the pull-up effect wax to moves to the surface not only gives a darker color intensity it also depletes the leather structure of it and will need to be replenished otherwise the pull-up soft effect will loose its characteristic. A holistic approach would also include the following process to restore both the below surface diminishing leather constituents and the surface appearance as well in this recommended sequence:

1st - Surface soiling restorative cleaning is done with Degreaser-2.2 > Acidifier-2.0 preparing the general surface for replenishing WaxEffect-8.6 and AnilineTop-21G

>>> as well as some liquid ring marks from cold drinks.

2nd - Liquid ring marks from cold drinks if they are from condensation generally the Hydrator-3.3 dwelling process will disperse and blend or redistribute the ring marks. Spills drinks would have to be removed based on the class types of stain example any stains that are derived from plants and vegetables are removed with d’Tannin-3.5, milk would be tougher as it tends to coagulates and would need d’Protein-10 > Acidifier-2.0 system.

3rd – Hydrator-3.3 has its multi function role and may perform within the same period of time dispersing the stains or reverse transfer into a more absorbent material like using Towel-T5 is highly recommended. Dwelling up to 72hrs helps redistribute the dyestuff for a more even appearance and relax the heat stick together fiber and loosen it to be soften to the feel preconditioning so that Fatliquor-5.0 can hydrogen bond the amphoteric leather protein fiber more ionic efficiently.

4th – Fatliquor-5.0 soften the leather when dries as the fat plumps the leather structure with fullness and the oil lubricates the millions of interconnecting fibrils acting like hinges for smoothness when flexed reducing coarse breaks or creases. Up to 14% of fatliquor content maintain the lifeblood of the leather perpetually. Leather void or emptied of its fatliquor will loose its youthfulness and usefulness.

5th – WaxEffect-8.6 is to replenished the original fashion pull-up effect. Restorative application in conjunction with Hydrator-3.3 > Fatliquor-5.0 > WaxEffect-8.6 system will produce the best result as the Hydrator-3.3 breaks the surface tension so that WaxEffect-8.6 would have an even penetration appearance. Fatliquor-5.0 plumps the leather maintain stretching softness to keep the wax effect alive. However, periodic application as a standalone would require a prior surface cleaning with Clean-3.8 > Rinse-3.0 system to maintain its effect. Cloudy wax crystalline appears when the dries and they are activated with a heat blower or hair dryer to a natural deep sheen.

6th – AnilineTop-21G further seals the wax effect to a high gloss.

7th – Protector-D+ leather scented or the scentless D version protects the finish with a rub-resistant and used as a first defensed against surface soiling and appearance by sealing and concealing light scuff and marks on a routine basis after Clean-3.8 > Rinse-3.0.

>>> >>> Will your aniline wax pull up leather care kit help remove these?

Leather DoctorŽ Kit-Aw6.tc is recommended as mentioned above sequence except the unknown water stain other that clean water condensation will need to have specialty products to removed them accordingly from the Leather Problem Solving Guide.

Leather DoctorŽ Kit-Aw6.tc, aniline wax pull-up leather topcoat refinishing kit is designed for after degreasing in a holistic approach. Most penetrated stains from the head and hands that show a darkening effect have its topcoat probably deteriorated by the oil, grease and sweat. Deteriorated topcoat removed during the degreasing process is refinished with AnilineTop-21G after wax effect rejuvenated. Removing penetrated soiling contamination starts with Degreaser-2.2, a waterbased (pH 2.2) multifunctional degreaser that emulsifies the greasy contamination, controls dye bleeding and charging the protein fiber ionic positive for strengthening the attraction between the ionic negative tanning agent, dyestuff and fatliquor. Deflocculated and suspended soiling is towel extracted, thereafter rinse and pH balanced with Acidifier-2.0 to prevent the leather from reverting to rawhide. When leather feels sticky or slimy it is a sign of leather denaturing, a squeaky feel when wet is a sign of healthy leather. Hydrator-3.3 relaxes stiff leathers and removes surface tension free from surface blotchiness prior to fat and oil replenishing. Fat and oil is replenished with Fatliquor-5.0 to rejuvenate the leather for the desired suppleness when dry. Wax Effect-8.6 rejuvenates the structural wax pull-up effect and coagulates a cloudy waxy coating on the surface to be heat activated into the characteristic glossy sheen. Protector-D+ enhances a non-stick draggy-feel to shield against sticky soiling, besides healing and concealing lightening scuff and abrasion marks. Note that the mentioned product suffix number denotes its pH value in this holistic leather-safe aniline wax pull-up leathers topcoat refinishing system.
