These vachetta leather conditions serve as hindsight in terms of the best approach to service and condition them.

Ultimately the leather will comes to such darken condition from body oil, grease and sweat contaminations; exposure to sunlight will also contribute to the darkening effect.

To keep the leather or try to returns the leather to its new pale biscuit color appearance maybe pointless or short live.

It seems the best approach for even new pale biscuit leathers to begin to season them with fatliquor.

    Advantages in Appearance:
The new pale biscuit color will immediately take on a season colored.
Fatliquor main component are the fat and oil incased in water molecule, just like fresh milk.
The fat plumps the leather with fatness, the oil lubricates the leather for suppleness and the water creates breathing pores essential for leather transpiration.
In most cases vachetta leathers and all vegetable-tanned leathers are more fatliquor thirsty than the common chrome-tanned leathers.
If the leather is well fat liquored with fullness it will be less absorbent to body contact oil, grease and sweat.
If it is well seasoned the appearance will immediately take a medium range color of vachetta leathers (from the untouched and unexposed pale biscuit color to almost contaminated to black in color); so the contrast if it even happens will be less drastic in appearance.

    Advantages in Suppleness and Strength:
When the leather is well fat liquored, these crack will never happen.
It is the oils in the fatliquor that contributes to the suppleness and strength to these leathers.

So take heed that consistent fatliquoring on this “Neverfull” bag will also “NeverDarkens” and “NeverCracks”!

    Now the questions are:

are we able “to lighten these darkened leather pipings”, the answer is yes-we-can!

and are we able to “remove these small cracks”, the answer is I can’t!

The recommended sequence of lightening these darkened leather pipings is as follows:

1] Decontaminating Oil, Grease & Sweat:
    Degreaser-2.2 > Rinse-3.0 (Eraser-4 + horsehair Brush-1)

    2] Lightening from Sun Tanning:
    d’Tannin-3.5

    3] Seasoning, Softening & Strengthening:
    Hydrator-3.3 > Fatliquor-5.0

    4] Non-stick, Rub-resistant, Draggy-feel & Leather-Scent Protection:
    Protection-D+.

Tips on Removing these Small Cracks

1] I do not know how to remove these small cracks while the surrounding still has it original grain texture.

2] The more we remove the grain, the coarser the texture will be – that’s how “Nubuck” is created from smooth leathers with very fine “finger writing effect”.

3] The question is how deep the crack does goes and how deep it is to be followed through.

4] To leave it worn as it is with periodic fatliquor replenishing will maintain the worn condition as it is, is much preferred with authenticity than any other ideas.

5] Other ideas include strengthening the weaken structure with Imprenator-26 with possible darkening effect as a compromise.

Kit V3.tn is the recommended kit with optional d’Urine-2.1 and d’Bacteria-3.7 as add-ons.
