Default Sheepskin Rug - How to Condition a Sheepskin Rug for Softness and Strength.

The sequence of procedures is as follows:

    A: Hydrating

#1: To hydrate the inter-fibrillary leather structure to facilitate colloidal water movement prior to fatliquoring - spray Hydrator-3.3

#2: Controlled evaporation by putting it into a see through plastic bag.

#3: Rolled up to stretch in both directions and let it dwell minimum 4 hours each direction or overnight would be better.

#4: Unrolled, stretch and let it dry until it’s damp but not wet when squeeze in between fingers.

    B: Fatliquor Conditioning

    #5: Spray Fatliquor-5.0 evenly throughout.

#6: Work the fatliquor in with gentle massaging to even out absorption.

#7: Controlled evaporation by putting it into a see through plastic bag (similar to #2 above).

#8: Rolled up to stretch in both directions and let it dwell minimum 4 hours each direction or overnight would be better (similar to #3 above).

    C: Drying & Softening

#9: Let it out of the plastic bag for complete dry (1 to 3 days depending on surrounding environment).
#10: Further softening can be achieve by stacking with a smooth object like the edge of a porcelain sauce plate, stretching and massaging to as soft as you wish.

    D: Heat-Treatment
#11: Caution! The skin has to be very dry before heat treatment (ironing WITHOUT steam on between wool to cotton setting with option of ironing over clean print paper).

What do you think of the above procedure?

See instruction for cleaning and conditioning both wool and the suede sides from this link:
