Very faded, very dry couch

This $50 marketplace couch was intended to round out my sparsely furnished furnished rental while I was working away from home for a few months but we decided to haul it home as it really is just so comfortable and structurally in great shape. However, it is VERY sun-bleached and the colouring is very uneven.

Additionally, there is staining on the seats and armrests and the leather in these places is somewhat rough to the touch.


We are fine with some patina as well as that suits our eclectic home but it would be nice to smooth out some of the more obvious stains a bit. It is quite soiled



I believe the leather is analine?

Exposure to sunlight or UV lights bleaches the color pale.
Correcting or rejuvenating the dormant dyestuff within the leather structure to resurface can be achieved to a degree by hydrating with Hydrator 3.3.
Further reconditioning with Fatliquor 5.0 will saturate the color richness further.
To bring it to showroom appearance would require a redye with Aniline 21 into the leather crust and even out absorbency with Aniline 76 which coats the uneven appearance.
The final gloss topcoat with Aniline Top 76G will further magnify and amplify the beauty of the grain to show through.
An option is to topcoat with a waxy-feel satin more refined finish with Aniline Top 21W.

Most likely these staining areas are a result of accumulated body oil, grease, and sweat will need to degrease the oil and grease and pH balance the sweat with Degreaser 2.2 and Acidifier 2.0 system.

The roughness of the leather is the result of the severe dryness of its fat and oil, probably caused by accumulating sweat and compounded by an alkaline solution.
Micro cracks are already apparent and mishandling will worsen the damage.
It is highly recommended not to allow these damages to dry without replenishing with sufficient Fatliquor 5.0.
That is the degreasing process after rinsing and pH balancing has to continue with hydrating and fatliquoring in a continuous process before allowing slow drying, to prevent worsening of the damaged areas.
Fatliquor is the lifeblood of leather, without a sufficient average of 14% within the leather structure, in the drying process the fiber becomes stuck together stiff, and when stressed or flexed, it cracks.

If the soiling is mainly from body oil and grease then Degreaser 2.2 and Acidifier 2.0 systems will deliver the result, otherwise, Leather Prep Cleaner 4.4 aka Prep 4.4 helps in releasing and suspending other soiling types.
There are also specialty stain removers for known stain types to match accordingly.

The weakness of these rough areas will need to be strengthened structurally with Impregnator 26.
Surface roughness is smooth with Adhesor 73.
Products will need to be tested for darkening effect, otherwise, a color matching must be able to camouflage it with a coating aniline dyestuff like Aniline 76.
