Default Nubuck - How to Degrease Body Stain, Soften Cardboard Stiffness, Reactivate Color with Renew "silky-feel finger writing effect" and impart a Classical Leather Scent to this 20 Year Old Nubuck Lounge?

    Hi Roger

The Photos above are of a Nubuck lounge that has seen better days
My client asked if there is anything that can be done to restore her 20 year old lounge. She does not want to spend a lot of money on a full restoration.

The lounge has spent its first 10 years in the tropics of Australia and the second half of its life in Perth, which is hot, Mediterranean type of weather.

The lounge has lost the original finish, some parts are very shiny and on the top of the rear back the leather is very dry, like cardboard, and in some areas has lost its colour.

Is there anything I can do to firstly help clean the lounge, and also remoisturise the dried out leather?

    Problem solver:

1] Shiny is an accumulation of body grease and oil – Use Degreaser-2.2 > Acidifier-2.0 (reduce bleeding).

    2] Restoration Cleaning the remaining area – Use Degreaser-2.2 > Rinse-3.0 (otherwise the standard is Prep-4.4 > Cleaner-3.8 > Rinse-3.0).

    3] Leather dry as cardboard result of sunlight exposure – Use Hydrator-3.3 > Fatliquor-5.0 > Rinse-3.0

4] Color lost in body contact areas are due to hydrolysis and oxidation of grease and oils.
Alkalinity and UV light will result in color change or lost.
Exfoliating to renew the beneath color freshness – Use Nubuck Eraser-5.

    Non-Stick Protector:
1] Use Leather Scent-S (silky-feel) with the unforgettable classic leather scent.

I will be please to help you out; in the meantime here are the product descriptions:

Bleaching the remaining dye residues on non-absorbent leathers may be accomplished by using Bleach-10.5 as the last resort.

Leather Doctor® Acidifier-2.0 – for Pigmented, Aniline, Nubuck, Hair-on and Woolskin leather types.
This is a pH 2.0 aqueous strong leather acidifier.
It’s for cationizing the leather protein fibers below its isoelectric point to increase hydrogen bonding with the anionic aniline dyestuff for bleeding control.
Also it’s commonly used to neutralize alkaline exposure that cause marks, streaks, brightness tackiness or sliminess from stains or cleaners.

Leather Doctor® Prep-4.4 – for Aniline, Nubuck and all Absorbent leather types.

It cleans by penetrating, lubricating and suspending soiling safely and effectively through gentle chemical reaction.
As its pH value works in perfect harmony with all leather constituents that include the tanning agent, preservative, fatliquor, dyestuff and others.

Leather Doctor® Rinse-3.0 – for all Pigmented, Aniline and Nubuck leather types.

This is a pH 3.3 aqueous leather-safe hydrator.
It’s for hydrating dried, stiffed or shrunk leathers (to separates the crushed, stick together fibrils and relax them) prior to Fatliquor-5.0.
And it’s also used for facilitating colloidal water movement within the leather structure capillary motion during the wicking process.
That will cause suspended soil particulates to be moved to the leather surface to be extracted with rag while damp and erase with Leather Eraser-4 when dry.

Leather Doctor® Fatliquor-5.0 - for Pigmented, Aniline, Nubuck, Hair-on and Woolskin leather types.
This is a pH 5.0 anionic charged micro emulsion fatliquor leather rejuvenator.

It penetrates and lubricates the leather fibers so that after drying they will be capable of sliding over one another smoothly.
Besides softening the leather with stretchability, compressibility and flexibility, fatliquor enhances its rip tensile strength greatly.
Thus relaxes coarse breaks, creases and wrinkles to provide drapes, suppleness and prevents cracking.
It helps to keep leather at its optimum physical performance and prevent premature ageing.

Leather Doctor® Leather Scent-S – for Pure-Aniline, Nubuck, Hair-On and Woolskin leather types.
This is a non-film forming, non-stick protector that enhances a natural silky-feel with a classic leather scent that charms.
It imparts a non-stick surface essentially to shield the detrimental effects of sticky soiling including the nasty ballpoint ink.
And it does help to release those tenacious dye-transfer stains especially on light colored leathers easily without resorting to unnecessary color refinishing.
Its natural silky-feel protection increases the leather resistance to wet and dry rubs, thus reduce stretch, scuff and abrasion.
And it reduces friction squeaks that wear the finishes when leather rubs against leather during movement.
