Default Leather Sofa becomes very Sticky after our Cleaner used Washing Detergent!

Hi, our cleaner used washing detergent liquid to clean our white leather sofa, which has now resulted in it being very sticky. Is there a remedy for this at all?

The topcoat has deteriorated using alkaline cleaners, thus becomes sticky.

The answer is to refinished the topcoat with the help of a crosslinker to solve the sticky problem.

Leather Doctor® Kit-Sa7.st system is formulated to restore the sticky problem associated with deteriorating urethane topcoat especially to common body exposed areas like the armrest and headrest. The system includes removing foreign contamination, pH balancing, a fresh new crosslinking topcoat applied and a non-stick protector for another lease of useful life. CleanPro-1.5 (pH 1.5), which takes care of the general non-body contact areas, follows with Acidifier-2.0 as rinse. Restorative cleaning both removes foreign contamination and reduces stickiness at the same time. Stripping the surface contamination including aged conditioners and protectors to the original finishes is done by Degreaser-2.2 with the help of Eraser-4 for better traction to removed surface materials. Less body contact areas are generally clean over with CleanPro-1.5 in the same manner. Suspended soiling is towel extracted simultaneously and rinse with Acidifier-2.0 until it shows clean. Fine sanding helps remove deteriorated sticky clear topcoat, which turns powdery white but cease when color is pick up by the sandpaper and the dust free surface is ready to receive a new topcoat. A 10% Crosslinker-25 is mandatory added to the MicroTop-54S prior to refinishing for extra finish strength from stickiness. The application is dry between coatings to match the original luster level. Protector-B (scentless) imparts a non-stick buttery-feel against sticky soiling and rub-resistant against friction-wear. The optional Protector-B+ extra feature further diffuses a leather scent enhancing the leather more sensuously and luxuriously. This starter kit is design as a holistic system, with 3 coatings of MicroTop-54S + Crosslinker-25 it covers approximately 80 square feet. Optional adds-on and refills are available as individual bottles. Shipping Weight Options: Kit-RTU:1.8kg is (ready-to-use) version and Kit-Fill:1kg (reduced weight in concentrates ratio) version to save on shipping, ease of handling and reduced freezing during winter season. Thus the 250ml bottles need to be cut and fill with distilled water prior to use accordingly.

Instruction Wet Preparation: 1- Protect floor with plastic covering from overspray and drips prior to stripping accumulated soiling. 2- Shake the Degreaser-2.2 to gel prior to use. 3- Transfer to the horsehair Brush-1 or Eraser-4 on the sponge side for normal cleaning and the crepe side for an extra scrub. 4- Apply with agitation onto the leather finish to remove surface soiling. 5- Suspended soiling is extracted with a lint-free towel or cleaning sponge until towel shows clean. 6- Spray Acidifier-2.0, agitate with horsehair Brush-1 or Eraser-4 and extract until towel shows clean again. 7- When dry, sand surface roughness and ensure free of foreign material with 2000-grit sandpaper. 8- Speed dry with hair dryer, free of residue and is ready for topcoat application.

Refinishing: 1- Crosslinker-25 10% is added into the MicroTop-54S to control existing stickiness. Empty the entire 7gm of Crosslinker-25 into the 70ml half filled bottle of MicroTop-54S and stir or swill it well. Once the topcoat is cross-linked, it is best to used within 8 hours, otherwise it will be cured hard and be useless. 2- Apply by foam brush lightly to avoid streaks or use soft varnishing brushes for streaks free result or airbrushing for professional result. 3- Steaks are corrected by fine 2000-grit sanding when dry. 4- Use a hair dryer for speed drying in-between coats to satisfaction. 5- Let it overnight cure before non-stick protection.

Non-Stick Protection: 1- Protector-B/B+ is applied evenly with either foam brush or paper towel and is ready for use when dry. 2- For routine application, a paper towel is recommended to simultaneously extract soiling.
