    Hi,

We picked up an old Krause's Castro Convertible Aniline Leather sleeper sofa. Nice thick leather.

Problem is that the smoke and pet smells are intense(cannot put it in the house yet), and it has body oil stains and some very dry and cracked areas.

I am attaching some photos. The list of products available is mind blowing. If someone could guide me on the products needed and the process, I will greatly appreciate it.

I'll try to load photos later. The sofa is chocolate brown.

    Thank you

This leather is identified as Aniline Wax Pull-up and here is the reference guide to solve the compound problems.

Here are general readings for solutions to the problems:

    Aniline Wax Pull-Up Leathers
Wax pull-up leathers derive its color from dyestuff and effect wax that gives the leather a lively distressed look. When this leather is pulled, stretched or scratched, the waxes dissipate characteristically and become lighter in those areas. Sunlight and stretching through high wear areas are two main indications that the infused wax needs replenishing. Fashion wax effect behaves just like the primary fatliquor they do diminish through ageing and will need periodic replenishing. Besides contributing to the color intensity, it improves in water shedding effect. Effect wax when applied to the leather penetrates while some coagulates as fine crystal and remains on the surface. The dried surface white powdery deposits are then heat activated and when they melt, they coat the surface with a glossy sheen.

Leather Doctor Kit Aw5.dr – Aniline Wax Pull-up Leather Degreaser Kit
Leather Doctor® Kit Aw5.dr, aniline wax pull-up leather degreaser kit is designed for routine degreasing leathers from preventing topcoat and dyestuff finishes damages especially to the headrest and armrest areas with most of bare body contacts. Topcoat and dyestuff refinishing products are found in Kit Aw6.tc and Kit Aw7.cl respectively. Preventive regular surface degreasing is preferred over corrective penetrated degreasing as most often, the topcoat is damaged and in severe cases, the dyestuff break bonds with the protein fiber. Preventive degreasing is done before a penetrating darkening effect manifest. Degreaser-2.2 is a waterbased (pH 2.2) multifunctional degreaser that besides emulsifying the grease contamination, it controls dye bleeding and charging the protein fiber ionic positive for strengthening the ionic attraction between the ionic negative tanning agent, dyestuff and fatliquor. Deflocculated and suspended soiling is towel extracted, thereafter rinse and pH balanced with Acidifier-2.0 to prevent the leather from reverting to rawhide. When leather feels sticky or slimy it is a sign of leather denaturing, a squeaky feel when wet is a sign of healthy leather. Hydrator-3.3 relaxes stiff leathers and removes surface tension free from surface blotchiness prior to fat and oil replenishing. Fat and oil is replenished with Fatliquor-5.0 to rejuvenate the leather for the desired suppleness when dry. Wax Effect-8.6 rejuvenates the structural wax pull-up effect and coagulates a cloudy waxy coating on the surface to be heat activated into the characteristic glossy sheen. Protector-D+ enhances a non-stick draggy-feel to shield against sticky soiling, besides healing and concealing lightening scuff and abrasion marks. Note that the mentioned product suffix number denotes its pH value in this holistic leather-safe aniline wax pull-up leathers degreasing system.

Hydrator-3.3 helps relax the leather structure, reduce surface tension for fat and oil replenishing. Fatliquor LS-5.5 diffuses a classic leather scent besides penetrating and lubricating the leather structure for softness, suppleness and strength when dry. Wax Effect-8.6 rejuvenates the structural wax pull-up effect and coagulates a cloudy waxy coating on the surface to be heat activated into the characteristic glossy sheen. The surface wear of the leather is greatly reduced with a rub-resistant Protector-D+ that enhances a non-stick draggy-feel to shield against sticky soiling, besides healing and concealing lightening scuff and abrasion marks. Hi Roger,

We read a few restoration stories from the site, need an idea of what has to be ordered and done. I am just guessing, but would we get a kit, like the smoke odor kit, and add the degreaser and d'odor? I am not sure of the quantities either.
If you can help us with the products and amounts, then we can get the ball rolling.

    Thank you very much,

    Scott

    >>> I am just guessing, but would we get a kit, like the smoke odor kit, and add the degreaser and d'odor?

    Yes, that will be:

    Plus individual bottles as add-ons:

    Degreaser-2.2 (http://www.leatherdoctor.com/servlet...dsh-2.2/Detail)

    Acidifier-2.0 (http://www.leatherdoctor.com/servlet...dsh-2.0/Detail)

    D”Odor-4.5 (http://www.leatherdoctor.com/servlet...dsh-4.5/Detail)

    Adhesor-73 (http://www.leatherdoctor.com/servlet...-dsh-73/Detail)

    AnilineTop-21G (http://www.leatherdoctor.com/servlet...-dsh-21/Detail)

    Eraser-4 (http://www.leatherdoctor.com/servlet...r-dsh-4/Detail).

    2000grit Sandpaper (http://www.leatherdoctor.com/servlet...ndpaper/Detail)

    >>> I am not sure of the quantities either.

Recommend ordering the kit and the smallest individual bottles available as add-on. This initial amount of product may not be enough for the entire set but allows you to know how the product response and how much or relevant products to order from this experience.

    >>> If you can help us with the products and amounts, then we can get the ball rolling.
When you have the above-mentioned products we can get started. How much products to complete the entire sofa will come from this initial experience.
