Default Coach - Restoring Vintage Coach Brief Bag

I just recently came into another Coach vintage briefcase and was wondering what steps I should take to restoring it. The leather is glove tanned leather if that is any help. Thanks!Name: $(KGrHqF,!pMFEMm-vmEbBROCOdB!o!~~60_57.JPG

“Glove Tanned” may suggest marketing term but definitely not a technical term used by the tanners.

This is probably a vegetable tanned leather that has high oil and fat content (fatliquor) making it softer than normal vegetable-tanned leather.

    Restoring Consideration:

1] Handle grease, oil and sweat.
The handles have to be degreased and see the result prior to color restoration.
Most likely the deteriorated finished is also removed during the intensive deep degreasing.
Stripping the handle of existing finish entirely is highly recommended with Stripper-2.3, making deep degreasing much more effective for the stains to resurface.
    Degreasing system involves Degreaser-2.2 > Acidifier-2.0.
A holistic approach would incorporate the leather rejuvenating system of Hydrator-3.3 > Fatliquor-5.0 prior to color refinishing.

    2] Water Stain:
Picture #2 shows water stain, possibly from the migrating tanning agent.
Possible rectification would include Acidifier-2.0 to recharge the protein fiber ionic positive to re attract the tanning agent.
It would also require a redistribution of the leather constituents with the help of Hydrator-3.3.
Stubborn stain may be resolved with d’Tannin-3.5.

3] Repair to worn and damaged edges.
Weak leather structure is strengthen with Impregnator-26
Missing material is replace with Patch-4S, a super thin 0.04mm vegetable-tanned lambskin with leather Bond-3D.

    4] Surface Scratches:
This is restorative clean with Degreaser-2.2 > Rinse-3.0 prior to Dry prep follows with Adhesor-73 to seal uneven absorption prior to Dye refinishing.

    5] Color Matching:
This color is a possible mix of yellow and orange.

    6] Dyestuff:
Transparent coating dyestuff is recommended over staining dyestuff to refinish the surface.
    Use Aniline-76

    7] Luster:
Topcoat not only seals the dyestuff from crocking and bleeding, it determines the luster effect of the leather.
A too shining finish looks too artificial, matte luster will makes the leather look more natural.
AnilineTop-76M and AnilineTop-76G is available and a mix produce a satin effect to match existing luster.

    8] Rub-Resistant Protection:
Protector-B+ helps reduce abrasion thus prolong the beauty of the finish much longer.
