How to clean and make my leather jacket soft and newer in color

All I know about the coat is that is is a soft and smooth leather (not pebbly) I don't know what type of aniline it is. Is there a way I can test it? So I will know exactly what kit to get, unless the kit you suggested will still work for my particualr leather coat.
