Aniline (Full) - Treating cracks before they become rips

Hi,

I have a chair that has what appears to be a quite deep crack. Before it gets worse is there anything i can do?

The multiple cracks of various degrees appears on the stain area, which is the cause of the leather stiffness that result in cracks when further stress. More cracks will appears or existing cracks becoming worst if more pressure or flex is asserted to it.

The stain that is the culprit of the problem has first to be eliminated or neutralized to its original pH value of 3 to 5, leather structure rejuvenated for suppleness and repairs with refinishing follows as an option.

The strain is suspected to be of alkaline nature or reverting to alkalinity through natural fermenting process. It would be more precise if we could remember what this stain is otherwise the smell may give us the clue.

Question!
Is this area part of the armrest with years of accumulated sweat, oil and grease before I proceed with recommendation?

Thanks ever so much for your response. Its a new chair or rather its a new chair to me (manufactured in the 70's). Thats correct its in the arm and would be the area someone would press on when the sit up therefore assume it pressure and sweat. Any thoughts on what i can do other than avoid putting pressure on the arms?

Please unzip the cushion and see if the suede side is also red?

Hi, The leather is actually riveted to the chair the cushions are not part of the chair. Ill upload some more photos.

Are you able to see the reverse side or edge is also red in color?

I cant see if it has suede its not possible to unreal a bit of the leather to see.

From what we see so far, the leather is identified as “Aniline” with either a gloss or satin finish.

This Aniline (A) Leather Problem Solving Guide is to be used as reference.

The preventive measure is to soften and strengthen the leather without causing any ill effect to the appearance that may degrade its aesthetic. The procedure is recommended as follows:

#1 Degreasing and Protonating:
Product system to use - Degreaser-2.2 > Acidifier-2.0 > Hydrator-3.3
This combination system will perform a deep degreasing removing contaminated soiling and protonating the leather protein fiber ionic positive (+ve) for pH leather chemistry integrity. Hydrator-3.3 help wicks or moves suspended soiling particulates to the surface by “reverse transfer” technique.

#2 Leather Rejuvenating System:
Product system to use – Hydrator-3.3 > Fatliquor-5.0
The cracks is due to fatliquor dryness or diminishes, hydrating helps relax and plums the leather. With sufficient Fatliquor-5.0 thereafter will help reduce or close up the cracks to a degree.

#3 Repair Topcoat damages:
Product system to use AnilineTop-21G
Most of body oil, grease and sweat prolong contamination deteriorates or damages the topcoat that after degreasing and erasing soiling particulates with Eraser-4, the pale grain leather reveals. AnilineTop-21G will magnify and amplify the color intensity of the leather to a degree depending on existing color loss or damaged.

Tips:
Any structural repairs with Impregnator-26 and or Bond-3D may take a darkening effect and the darkest shade will become the lightest color to camouflage them with “transparent” coating dyestuff that see through. All repairs to fill up the cracks can only be blocked off with Micro-54 pigment coloring, transforming the finish to a semi-aniline with an opaque appearance.

These topcoat damages are identified as white, dull or darkening stain from bare body contacts. Accidental whitish damages in most cases are free of soiling and direct AnilineTop-21G application with in between dry sanding rectifies most damages. Protector-B+ impart a non-stick, rub-resistant surface with a buttery feel helps reduce friction wear to the topcoat and extended a high level of appearance for a longer period of time. When the leather is contaminated with foreign soiling, it is essential to look at topcoat refinishing in a holistic approach.
