Hello there,

I have run into some trouble with my leather sofa. I had electrical tape strapped onto one of the arms for a unrelated reason. Upon removing it, it seems to have taken some of the surface leather with it. I have tried to remedy this by applying baby oil to the area hoping to burn the adhesive left by the tape. Although this has stained the leather considerably. Please check the photos provided and it would be very much appreciated if you could spare me some advice to remedy the situation.

Kind regards, Paul

Leather looks like its absorbent; most likely, it is aniline leather, which has its finish (colorcoat and topcoat) peel off.

To restore the missing colorcoat will need Aniline Dye-21 + Adhesion-73 and the topcoat will require Aniline Topcoat-79G.

Your secondary problem is to have the baby oil degreased to remove the darkening effect. Some oil types when oxidized may turn yellowish that may discolor the finish too.

To degrease you need Degreaser-2.2 follows by Rinse-3.0

Please post better quality pictures to confirm the above solution to your problem is right.

Note:
Please show the types of tap and the brand of baby oil which you used.
Does the pull-off tape show color?
