Repair areas will take on a darker shade of color - therefore the chair has to be redyed.

Is the leather "napped" or "smooth"?

This is a very fine nubuck, however the arms and seat cushion are worn beyond the surface and feel more like suede.

Chet,

When Nubuck has becomes feel like suede there is little we can do about it; as the deeper it wears the coarser the fiber becomes.

But it still can be improved with sanding to reduce the extra length of the nap.

Take one of the worst areas and try it out.

In this sequence of process:

1] Degrease-2.2 > Rinse-3.0 (work with leather Eraser-4 and Nubuck Brush-2; roughness improve with 320grit sanding)
Check for tackiness or sliminess during the rinse – otherwise rinse with Acidifier-2.0 to a healthy squeaky feel.

1A] Inspection when dry.

2] Specialty Cleaning may be required at this point by using the below Nubuck Problem Solving Guide as reference.

3] Hydrating with Hydrator-3.3, let it soak for 24 to 48 hours may help to wick out any foreign contamination to the surface to be towel extracted when damp and erase with leather Eraser-4 when crispy dry. Using tissue paper as an extension of the leather surface may helps to pull the soiling particulates off the surface.

4] When appearance is satisfactory, proceed to fatliquor replenishing it with Fatliquor-5.0.

4A] Inspect when dry – Erase with Eraser-4.

5] Decide whether coloring is necessary to improve the appearance.

6] This may be done with a choice of Aniline Dye-21 (transparent) or Nubuck Dye-28 (translucent for better covering power).

7] Dye Fix-99 is necessary to fix the dyestuff from crocking.
