View Full Version : Zebra Skin Rug - needs a little Tender Loving Care that also requires a tear to its tail to be fixed as well.

Questions!

I was reading your forums about Zebra Skin Rugs (which I have just purchased one that could use a little tender loving care) and would like to know where to buy your products.
I think overall my rug is in quite good condition - even though the person I have just bought it from had treated it rather badly and had it rolled and folded up and jammed up on the top of a cupboard!
The main thing here for me is to get it clean and smell free again and to put back a little moisture in the Zebra's muzzle and eye area (a little dry and crusty).
I am going to give it the works though, just to keep it looking great for years to come.
Also like one other person on the forum mine does have a tear in the tail which does need to be fixed, so maybe I need to purchase some of this bonding agent down the track.
As you will be able to see in the pictures, my rug is a little dry around the muzzle, eyes and tail area - otherwise quite good.
Just a good cleaning of the coat especially the white areas.
Thanks, and looking forward to receiving these products.
I have just finally received my leather cleanings goods!
Can you please give me a quick rundown on what I should be doing?
I do want to treat both upper and the top fur on my zebra rug.
Also can I do the repair to his tail with the leather Bond-3D first?

What you purchase is the Kit H4 with the leather Bond-3D as add-on, so it is minus the patch you see in this Kit H7.

Products to be used on the suede side are:

Cleaner-3.8
Rinse-3.0
Hydrator-3.3
Fatliquor-5.0
Suede Eraser
Suede Brush
Leather Bond-3D
Towel

Products to be used on the hair side are:

Cleaner-5.5
Rinse-4.0
Protection-S+
Suede Brush
Towel

For a start, I suggest you select an area to do both sides including the repairs.
From then you would know how much refills you will require for the entire rug.

Let’s start off the tail section. . .

Suede Side:

A. Cleaning:

1] Use suede Eraser-4 and eraser the section in conjunction with the suede Brush-3 brushing action. The smooth side of the eraser is for fine erasing and the corrugated side is for coarse erasing especially for soiling build-up. Use the sharp brass brush at an angle just like using a sharp knife only at one direction. Careful when reaching the tear areas.

2] Soiling residue is to be vacuumed off.

3] Apply Cleaner-3.8 and brush or erase accordingly and towel extract until towel shows clean, a heavy duty terry towel is most suitable.

4] Apply Rinse-3.0 brush or erase and towel extract.

B. Leather Rejuvenating:

1] Apply Hydrator-3.3 to soak and relax the leather – the entire tail can be film wrapped to control evaporation and leave for a day or two or three until it is very soft.

2] Remove the kitchen food cling wrapper or film and spray apply Fatliquor-5.0 with the help of the foam brush to spread it evenly.

3] As the moisture is evaporated, Fatliquor-5.0 is applied at regular interval until the leather is saturated.

4] When dry it will be as soft as you wish with some flexing to it.

C. Repair:

1] To have repairs without the use of a sub-patch is the recommended method as the repair may not look like a repair but a natural scar. It’s the same concept as fiberglass making that will require the resin and the fiber.

2] The donor fiber is scraped from the same suede side with a circular razor blade or equivalent.

3] Position and realign the tear back in place, brush up the fibers and apply the leather Bond-3D neatly along the line a section at a time and lay the fibers over it.

4] Use forceps and other convenience tools to pick up the fibers and laying in positing to blend into the surface.

5] The repairs may take up a darkening effect when it is completely dry.

Show some pictures of your progress, if you are doing alright.

Any questions, please!
