Customer: Ricelli

Roger, We have a sectional with severe color loss of the secondary color (brown) The base (Ocre) seems to be very stable.
We test cleaned it on the sides and both colors are stable, however; when we cleaned a bottom cushion the top color almost wipes right off. We already received the secondary color from you. What steps should I follow to redye the color loss areas.

I used 75% Acetone to get to here, are you sure you want all the brown top coat off? If so we are going to use 75% Acetone 25% Clean 3,8 and use a white 3m scrub pad? What do you think?

The secondary brown has deteriorated and has to be removed; otherwise the new color may have a peeling problem.

To remove this deteriorated brown finish the recommended procedure is as follows:

Strip:
Spray a mix of 75% acetone with 25% Cleaner-3.8; and scrub with leather Eraser-4; to remove from the grooves or creases use nubuck nylon Brush-2.

Rinse:
Spray Rinse-3.0 and extract with terry towel.

Leather Rejuvenating:
Only to areas that darkens during the rinse and along the needle holes.
Here Hydrator-3.3 is used follows with Fatliquor-5.0.

Dry Prep:
Lightly sand the surface with 1200 sanding grit and remove dust with Rinse-3.0.

Adhesion Coating:
The original problem may be due to the lacking of this adhesion coating - to ensure good anchorage use Adhesor-73 as per instruction.

Secondary Coating:
Airbrush to achieve desired result using custom Pigment Micro-54 with addition of 5 - 10% Thickener-48 to control flow and streaks on vertical spraying.

Topcoating:
Use Topcoat Micro-72S (satin)

Non-Stick, Rub-Resistant Protection:
Use Leather Scent-B (buttery-feel)

Just concentrate on the used areas; you can feather out to the never used areas.

Picture #1 shows too patchy; I would strip entirely clean of the used areas; will help in the color application with a more even appearance.

Used the leather Eraser-4 first than follows with the nylon Brush-2 for the creases and grooves; 3M pad alone may over scratch the grains and leave the grooves un-touch.

Pictures of stripped cushions.
Think we should wet sand (water or rinse) 1200 grit now or dry sand?

I see no breaks in the ocre finish, so I think after sanding we can apply Adhesor 73 then dye and top coat?

Dry sand or wet sand?

Do we have enough secondary finish off yet?

Wet Sanding (75/25) is more effective, thereafter Rinse-3.0.

Correct! Leather Scent-B is last and routine maintain with it will prolong the wet and dry rub - if you also include a warranty the Scent-B is a must.

To strip off deteriorated finish, wet sanding is more effective - careful not to remove the primary ochre color.

Yes, try to reduce the patchiness - will make your color application easier.

Roger, Not sure if I should keep applying micro pigment, to get the deeper tone/color or if I have the wrong color. We have about 10 coats on it now.

This is the original swatch on top of cushion.

This picture shows funnel with color dried on it and the color looks close.

The color swatch looks more like the color you mixed for my customer Schmidt (M8t3b9)

Color Formula:

Schmidt = Maroon 8 + Tan 3 + Black 9

Ricelli = Ochre 1 + Tan 4 + Black 3

To bring the color close add Maroon or Black by percentage in weight.

The base for Ricelli is an ochre color, that somehow still show through; to compensate, it is preferred to shade it with black, hue it with Maroon; rather than to increase the coating.

Tips:

Do a test first, if you can achieve your desire shade; and make sure you can estimate that it will be sufficient to cover them all.

When your color is running low, it is best to go a complete round so that all surface receive the same layers of coating.

Use this: Topcoat Pigment-56G

By the way how did you achieve the desired color?

About 2/3 Schmidt color and 1/3 Ricelli. I still have 250ml of schmidt left and 1/3 of the quart from ricelli.
