Roger,

I have a client that used coconut oil to condition her old Nubuck chair. It brought back some color and looked much better until it got cold, at which time it would turn chalky white. A hair dryer would fix it temporarily until it got cold again. We cleaned, rinsed hydrated and fatliquored the chair. it looked great for 2 weeks and then it started getting hazy again. I'm sure we didn't get all the coconut oil out.
What product would be best to try and get the remaining coconut oil out of the leather?

Degreaser-2.2 would be ideal for its dual functionality both to degrease and protonate. Degreasing below surface, just like an iceberg is pretty unpredictable and may require the help of “reverse transfer” technique utilizing a stretchable paper towel to absorb the oil stain as it wick through rather than remaining on the surface. Protonate the protein leather fiber at pH of 2.2 strengthen the ionic positive (+ve) charge thus strengthening its ionic attraction between the other ionic negative (-ve) leather constituents like the dyestuff and fatliquor maintaining the leather pH chemistry integrity simultaneously.

Degreasing System:
Degreaser-2.2 > Acidifier-2.0 > Hydrator-3.3

Degreaser-2.2 is for emulsifying the coconut oil stain. Follows with Acidifier-2.0 for rinsing and stabilizing the pH chemistry integrity with the other leather constituents. And Hydrator-3.3 as the last of the wet removing process helping to moves suspended oily particulates to be trapped by the stretchable paper towel through the “reverse transfer” wicking process.

Dry soil removing is done with the help of Eraser-4 when crispy dry.

Grooming for a finger writing effect is accomplished with nubuck Brush-2 after Protector-S+.

Leather Doctor Kit N5.dr – Nubuck Degreaser Kit
Leather DoctorŽ Kit N5.dr, nubuck leather degreaser kit is designed for degreasing especially to the headrest and armrest areas with most bare body contacts. Preventive regular surface degreasing is preferred over corrective penetrated degreasing as in severe cases; the dyestuff breaks bond and bleeds. Degreaser-2.2 is a waterbased (pH 2.2) multifunctional degreaser that besides emulsifying the greasy contamination, it controls dye bleeding and charging the protein fiber ionic positive for strengthening the ionic attraction between the ionic negative tanning agent, dyestuff and fatliquor. Deflocculated and suspended soiling is towel extracted, thereafter rinse and pH balanced with Acidifier-2.0 to prevent the leather from reverting to rawhide. When leather feels sticky or slimy it is a sign of leather denaturing, a squeaky feel when wet is a sign of healthy leather. Hydrator-3.3 relaxes stiff leathers and removes surface tension free from surface blotchiness prior to fat and oil replenishing. Fat and oil is replenished with Fatliquor-5.0 to rejuvenate the leather for the desired suppleness when dry. Dye refinishing is a consideration prior to a non-stick rub-resistant protection found in Kit N7.cl. Protector-S+ enhances a non-stick silky-feel to shield against sticky soiling. Note that the mentioned cleaning product suffix number denotes its pH value in this holistic leather-safe nubuck leathers degreasing system.
